Qualifying a lead

What happens when you click Qualify, and what Nazzam does about someone who is already in your CRM.

Qualifying a lead#

Qualifying means: this person is real and worth pursuing.

Open the lead and click Qualify. Nazzam creates a contact from the lead's details, marks the lead as qualified, and links the two so you can always see where that contact came from.

The lead is kept. It is not converted, renamed or deleted.

What if they are already a contact?#

This is the part worth understanding, because it is where duplicate records usually get created in other systems.

Before creating anything, Nazzam looks for a contact who might already be this person. If it finds one, it stops and asks — nothing is written until you decide.

You will see "Possible existing contact found" with the match, and how confident Nazzam is:

  • Almost certainly the same person — the email addresses match, or the name and phone number both match.
  • Likely the same person — the phone number matches. Suggestive, but switchboards and shared mobiles exist.
  • Possibly the same person — the name matches. Common names collide all the time, so this is offered as a question, never an answer.

Then you choose:

  • Use this contact — links the lead to the person who already exists. No duplicate is created.
  • They are a different person — creates a new contact anyway.
  • Cancel — nothing happens; the lead stays in your queue.

Nazzam never decides this for you. The strongest thing it will say is "probably the same person", because silently merging two people who happen to share a phone number is worse than asking, and asking costs one click.

Phone numbers typed differently#

Matching ignores formatting. +20 100 123 4567, 0100 123 4567 and 00201001234567 are recognised as one number.

The company#

If the lead named a company that is not in your CRM yet, you will be offered the option to add it. It is off by default on purpose: a prospect's stated employer is free text, and creating a company for every lead is how a company list fills up with "Acme", "acme ltd" and "ACME Limited".
